Description
Summary:The teaching of EAP is discussed in the article. Reasons encouraging students to learn the EAP are given. Comparison of the three branches of English – General English, English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes –is aimed to determine their common features as well as subtleties, small differences showing the importance of one type of English in some field. Referring to publications on EAP teaching and to the expe-rience of language teachers in higher educational institutions the problems of what assignments and how they could be given to students in order to make their classes more attractive, more interesting are analyzed. Such classes should encourage students to self-expression, i.e. not only develop the ability to pass the test, write notes, take part in subject-matter discussions but also to learn critical thinking, form one’s own approach on the items under discussion and give their evaluation in a fluent correct English.
