Description
Summary:This article reflects on the house and city in Brazil during the 1950s and 1960s based on the books Child of the Dark: the Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus [Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada (1960)] and I’m Going to Have a Little House: the Second Diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus [Casa de alvenaria: diário de uma ex-favelada (1961)] by Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977), and The Passion According to G.H. [A paixão segundo G.H (1964)] by Clarice Lispector (1920-1977). More than « documents », these works make us see these artifacts through the eyes of two women, conveying tensions of class, gender and race, marking the constitution of social and symbolic spaces that still operate in Brazil.
