Description
Summary:The application of morphostructural methods to the region of Boniato plateau, Santiago de Cuba graben, allowed to detect the tectonic influence of a left-lateral movement, which has ruled the Northern Caribbean region since the Oligocene-Miocene. Lateral-slip movement has determined the formation of a pull-apart basin along Santiago de Cuba bay, and its vertical component has determined a remarkable block differentiation of the tectonic scarp of Boniato, emphasizing the most active sector in the area, "El Cristo". New geomorphic data are accordant with data on the recent geodynamics (crustal tectonic movements and seismicity) of the last decade.
