Summary: | <p align="justify">In this article, firstly, meaning and categories of religious groups in the sociology of religion studies are criticallly assessed; then in this context, how Alevi-Bektashi groups can be interpreted and within which religious group typology they can be counted are discussed. The source of the academic conceptualizations on the religious groups in Turkey (including Alevi-Bektashi groups) is Western literature.<br>The data of the article has been provided through literature review. The article concludes that western academics classify religious groups according to their own historical and sociological realities. Each civilization circle, each culture is based on their own way of interpretation. Therefore, it is more appropriate that the religious groups of Eastern society are interpreted depending on their own historical and sociological reality.</p>
