Silverman, pioneers in the study of the Judeo-Spanish romancero and its relations with the Balkan world, in our article we intend to study the sources of two Greek Sephardic songs, one of them Panhispanic, The Return of the Husband, and the other genuinely Sephardic, The young Shepherdess. In both of them it is very clear the influence exerted by the rich Greek popular tradition on the Jewish one, as a result of the close coexistence of the latter with communities of Greek culture and language for more than five centuries, a good example of their vitality and extraordinary capacity of adaptation to the new geographical, political and cultural reality of the cities in the eastern Mediterranean that received them in their long exile.http://journals.openedition.org/atalaya/1669folk songssephardismbalkanismhellenisation |
