Theyprovide opportunities for individuals to engage in argumentation and expressviews as well as disseminateinformation or discussissues. Thisresearchinvestigatesthe linguistic features of argumentation in selected Malaysian social-political weblogs based on the discourse analysis ofsixweblog posts written bytwo Malaysian social-political(sopo) bloggerson social themes. Thiscomparativeanalysiswas facilitated bya comprehensivepragma-dialecticmodel ofargumentationas well asacritical discussionof theimpact of socio-culturalfactors onargumentationcontained in the selected Malaysian blogs. Thestudyalsooffersuseful insightsintothewaysinwhichstandpointsare expressedinargumentations indifferent cultural contexts.Awareness of the salient features ofcultural argumentationwould enableblogs to bebetter understood by a wideraudience from other cultures, and ultimately reaching a more global readership.
