Raman study of mixed solutions of methanol and ethanol

Methanol and ethanol are the simplest alcohols, which are widely used in industrial and medical fields, and even in daily life, we are often exposed to them because the basic component of various wines is ethanol, but the so-called “fake wine” is often accompanied by some methanol components. Here,...

Here, in order to establish a method for measuring the concentration of methanol using Raman spectroscopy, the laser Raman method was used to study Raman spectroscopy of methanol and ethanol liquid samples. The research results show that due to the difference in the chemical structure, the Raman spectra of ethanol and methanol have significantly different characteristics. This study indicates that the 2840.2 cm−1 Raman shift is the main spectral basis for the detection of methanol; for ethanol, 888 cm−1, 1054.7 cm−1, and 1287.3 cm−1 are the most characteristic ones, and the identification of methanol in various liquid phases has certain practical value.http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.5140722
