Description
Summary:This paper addresses the interpretation of texts and casts light on the theme, which the pre-eminent circumstantial evidence that helps us understand the text, the perfection of interpretation of the text and revelation of its meaning. The paper defines the theme and emphasizes its importance, perspectives and sphere. It shows that many Quranic exegetes, ancient and modern, were interested in the theme and they discuss it in conjuction with other circumstantial evidence. Few of them neglected it or abused it. But in those cases, misunderstanding of the text was the consequence. The thesis was highlighted by examples from the Quran. The paper concludes that the theme has a repercussion on sorting out the probabilities, detailing the account and determining the referent pronoun in the text. Moreover. it has significant bearing on the recitations (qiraat) and editing the interpretation to exclude impurities.. It also negates what may be thought a countradiction between verses. However. the paper is not comprehensive. it gives only headlines. The exegetes of the Quran were the pioneers in revealing the role of the theme and It is not, as it may be thought, that the theme is the result of contemporary linguistic studies or the invention of schools of address analysis.
