Summary:This study aimed to determine the profile of users, of health problems and the causes that lead children and adolescents to look for dental care emergency. Cross-sectional, descriptive, documental study, targeting data from the daily users report in the age group 0-19 years of the Dental Emergency Care Dr. Ademar Ventura Esteves (PAOAVE), from August 2008 to May 2010. The data were tabulated and analyzed using Epi Info program. During the study period, 2,284 users sought treatment with 91.7% of residents in the municipal seat, 5.6% in the countryside and 0.5% in other municipalities. The week day and period of increased demand for the service were, respectively, Monday (19.0%) and morning shift (45.4%). The average age was 12.39 years (SD ± 5). Of the users investigated, 3.2% mention to have allergy to drugs and other substances. The main complaints were dental pains (32.7%); abscess/cellulitis (12.0%); pain of pulpal origin (16.7%); dental trauma (5.9%); dental caries (92.7%) and other reasons (12.0%). During the welcoming, 48.1% of the procedures were classified as emergencies. Of undertaken consultations, 12.5% were referred for more complex service. It is concluded that users PAOAVE were residents of the municipal seat, with an average age of 12.39, taken to the Unit by diseases such as dental pain, abscess/cellulitis, pulp involvement and trauma. Most of the problems presented is solved in the unit.
