Theirevolution does not only reflect changes in purposes and desires of conservationof local cultures, but also those in the conceptual, methodological and technicalcontributions from various disciplines of knowledge (including changes ofperception in the way of appreciating the natural environment). Universitybotanical gardens are often associated with fragments of natural vegetation ofdifferent sizes, in different stages of ecological succession and within the contextof ecoregions or specific areas of life.
