His first sea contact occured by the influence of his father profession; Francisco Marques Lisboa, was a prosperous merchant and the Rio Grande’s port first skipper. By the time of the War of Independence, Marques Lisboa, with fifteen years, volunteered to serve at the Imperial Navy. Still very young he took part of the conflit denominated Confederação do Equador and at the Cisplatine War, his firms attitudes testifyed his successful future carreer.
