Summary:Today paper has become a very common commodity which is extensively used for writing, reading, painting and other purposes. The new age is considered as fast in science and technology. Paper is a concept of 1st century. But this was not so in early period. There was a period in the history of man when writing was not known and communication was only through speech as a medium of exchange of thought. The next phase of evolution of human civilization was followed by first drawing and then writing on the rocks, on the walls of the caves, stone, wood, metal, pottery, etc. Later on, people discovered a certain types of leaves such as Sanchi-leaves, palm-leaves, bhojya-patra, either by inscribing or incising for communication purpose. Literary and Nation’s own cultural heritage of one’s was focused through these Manuscripts. But these Mss., were the subjects to various forms of deterioration. Therefore they need proper care and handling methods. In this paper, a detail discussion is being presented for the proper care and handling of Manuscripts.
