Summary:This paper takes the Núcleo of Ingeniería Biomédica (NIB) from the Universidad de la República (Uruguay) as an example of how interdisciplinarity and global collaboration can be achieved in Higher Education teaching activities with a focus on Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics. We have recorded and analyzed using a qualitative strategy its practices in different teaching formats to interpret the best pedagogical strategies in the combination of interdisciplinarity and distant collaboration when using new technologies of communication.   KEYWORDS: Biomedical Engineering; Interdisciplinarity; University; Uruguay.
