Description
Summary:Cities always have been the points of new interactions and experiences throughout history. The affection and influences of citizen people who have a different class, culture, and strata background have consisted of the base of the invention, creativity, and the demanding of freedom, against all odds. But cities and urban places always have no regular, predictable and planned migrations, too. Insomuch as it can be argued that the rapid and unexpected demographic movements are the main sources of development of cities as well. Even if we do not focus on pre-modern times, we can usually find out the rapid urban developments in Europe’s modern period, colonial America and other parts of the world. Each of scientists knows very well the results and reflections of the industrial revolution in cities are mass migrations from rural to urban places after the industrial revolution. Without a doubt, for the last two-century, one of the most important facts is seeking refugee or being refugee due to war, violence, natural disasters or different reasons that have made cities greater and encounter with many difficulties. Turkey and the city of Gaziantep where had so dynamic migration history, have been trying to deal with refugee waves that brought about the war and violence period for the last seven years. So many different policies and solutions have been sought and applied in past seven years. But the situation in Gaziantep deserves more careful reading and understanding as an exemption of the general view in Turkey. This study will try to depict the general pattern of refugees who live in the downtown with the results of field research that has been conducted in Gaziantep. Thereafter the paper will discuss interactions of the Syrians in Gaziantep through a few titles which facilitate integration and living together such as participation to the city’s educational system, work, job, experiencing urban spaces, health, and rights
