Description
Summary:The church of "Mati Božja Bučjanska" is mentioned in the charter of the St. Panteleimon of Athos monastery from 1395 and in the contract of adelphates, between Lazarević family members and the same monastery, from the next year. The church in the village of Bučje, in Trstenik municipality, central Serbia, was built by unknown noble family before the year 1380/1381. The archaeological excavations, during the last decade of the 20th century, revealed the existence of medieval church on the hilltop, near the centre of the village, next to the 19th century cemetery. The architectural elements of the original medieval sacral monument have all features of "the Morava style" church built during the second half of the 14th century. We have determined the bounder of the church property on the basis of the data presented in the charter of 1395 and the Ottoman Turkish defters from the beginning of 16th century.
