Summary: | The traditional wise saying "you can’t teach an old dog new tricks“ has long been outdated. The most important production factor in the establishing of a “health” service is no doubt the human capital. Well trained, highly qualified people who are able to learn further are needed in order to provide the patients with a service at its highest quality. This means, that the success of an enterprise in the health market resides in its ability to make it possible for its employees to acquire a lifelong education. The strategy of the HELIOS hospitals has thus been to increase the knowledge of its employees and to provide the optimal conditions for the appropriation of further knowledge. The aim is to gather the existing knowledge structures of the concern and to make it easily available on a platform. The central library of the concern is used as an example to illustrate how the library services can also be brought into the knowledge landscape of a health concern and how they could be linked with strategic partners in the field of knowledge. |
