As an eminent figure in the field of medicine and public health between the last quarter of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, Ricardo Jorge is himself an object of research when we look back on the history of hygiene and public health in Portugal. This article intends to critically reflect on the historiography that was made around him, as part of an ongoing bio-bibliographic research project.
