Summary: | The city of Barrancabermeja has a deteriorated and disused railway corridor which is part of the national railway network to the corresponding section La Dorada - Chiriguaná. This corridor crosses the entire center of the urban area of the municipality and is currently practically abandoned and is limited only to the transit of some wagons, called motor cars, belonging to the COOPSERCOL L.T.D.A. for transporting passengers and minor cargo. According to data from the Barrancabermeja Traffic and Transportation Inspection, between 2015 and 2019, the number of motorcycles in the city increased by 50%, reaching a ratio of one motorcycle for every 2 inhabitants. This phenomenon of excessive growth of motorcycles has caused congestion and safety problems in recent years and has triggered the accident and informality rates. Against this background this research makes an analysis through the use of macro simulation models in transport of what would be the benefits for vehicular mobility if the current railway corridor as it passes through the urban area of the city were to become a vehicular route, creating a more direct connection to the city in the north-south direction. |
