The analyzed variables were: age, sex, thyroid diseases, sensitivity and cyto-histopathological specific diagnosis, surgical procedure used and post-surgical complications. Statistical procedures included absolute frequencies and percentages.
Results: female sex predominated (85,26 %) and age group from 36 to 50 years old (43,59 %). It was confirmed by means of histo-pathological studies the predominance of follicular carcinoma (29,17 %) and in general from benign illnesses (61,53 %). The correlation among cytological studies and biopsy showed that sensitivity of 94, 95 % and a specificity of 97, 30 %. hemi-thyroidectomy was the most frequent surgical procedure (67,31 %), among the post-surgery complications were transitory dysphonia and hypo-calcemia (9,29 %) and (5,45 %) respectively.
Conclusion: thyroid pathologies predominated in female and individuals between 36 and 50 years old and were diagnosed by means of cyto-histopathological studies. Follicular carcinoma predominated and globally benign illnesses, hemi-thyroidectomy was performed and there were few post-surgical complications.http://revfinlay.sld.cu/index.php/finlay/article/view/612enfermedades de la tiroidesprocedimientos quirúrgicosepidemiología descriptiva
