Description
Summary:
The aim of this study was to determine for how long cows´ blood can be stored without significant alterations of some of its hematological parameters during different storage temperatures. We examined alterations of selected parameters (red blood cells count, white blood cells count, hemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume) when blood samples were stored for 72 hours on fridge temperature (4 oC) and ambient temperature (18 °C). Samples were taken from six clinically healthy Holstein-Friesian cows. The results indicate that the length of storage time as well as the temperature of storage may affect some investigated hematological parameters. Differences were considered statistically significant whereas p<0,05.

Key words: cows, hematology, storage temperature, duration of storage
