Summary:Induction and maintenance of ketamine anaesthesia was employed in two groups (I and II) of experimental calves. In group II xylazine was administered as a premedicant. In both the groups induction and recovery was smooth and there was no variation in rectal temperature. The respiratory rate was significantly lowered in both the groups. Heart rate was elevated in group I and in group II it was significantly lowered due to the effect of xylazine.
