Description
Summary:Against the background of the problems surrounding Portuguese and Spanish territorial sanctity in the Modern Age, this study seeks to draw attention to the production of several works that fit within this framework - from “generalist” histories and geographical descriptions to saints’ “Lives” and hagiographical recollections - to be understood in a logic of investment in the preservation of memory, through the written record, and of the exaltation of the “national saints”, which would allow Portugal and Spain to stand in line with the other European Catholic kingdoms, that boasted of possessing more saints.
