Magnetic Nanoparticles for PAHs Solid Phase Extraction

In this paper a novel approach to the preparation of a solid-phase extraction sorbent, 1,4,7,10-tetrabenzyl- 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (TBCD)/magnetic nanoparticles, was developed. The four benzyl groups of TBCD provide the TBCD functionalized Fe3O4 with strong adsorption capacity for polycycli...

The four benzyl groups of TBCD provide the TBCD functionalized Fe3O4 with strong adsorption capacity for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), due to their ??-?? stacking interaction, which increases selectivity of the synthesized material to target analytes. The characterization indicated that the TBCD functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticlesrapidly and effectively pre-concentrate PAHs from water. Satisfactory precision and accuracy of the developed method were obtained at a low concentration of 5 ng L-1. The nanosized magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) sorbent combines high surface area, typical of nanomaterials, acting as a platform for anchoring functional groups with strong adsorption ability, and the possibility for a rapid collection simply applying an external magnetic field due to the superparamagnetism.https://www.cetjournal.it/index.php/cet/article/view/4144
