Summary:In the eighties the environmental elements air, water and soils were examined in correlation with the situation of economic development. In the nineties green areas, which are particu-larly important for Poznan, were planned within the framework of the General urban plan-ning of the town. In the article, natural factors are represented as restrictive development factors. In the questionnaire, over 83 % of the inhabitants of Poznan pointed out green areas to be the most important factor with regard to further house building.
