The objective is to assess the historical evolution of professional development and level of professional skills attained by Physical Education high-school. The historical-logical, inductive-deductive and analytical-synthetic methods were used based on the use of the following indicators: the policies established for the improvement of teachers; the ways instituted for the improvement of teachers; how the improvement of Physical Education teachers is designed; the educational models for the teaching of Physical Education and the improvement professional competences in the Physical Education in Colombia.
