Summary:This paper seeks to develop a philosophical reflection on the possible relationship between the notion of identity and contemporary forms of government. Considering a brief analysis of the main developments of the concept, it is sought to stress the field of common understanding and raise the question of a certain way that identity this can be thought of as an epistemological-ethical gear regarding the ways in which individuals are called to be named and recognized within the limits imposed by a political cartography. The thesis this paper argues is that the category of modern individual is not sustainable without an attachment to an order of the names that tends to self-government based on the appeal of an ethical ideal of correspondence to himself
