Summary:This paper presents an overview of development, state of the art and achievements of the ISO technical committee 211 – Geographic Information/Geomatics, which has concluded its original endeavors resulting in a set of twenty-five ISO standards and technical reports. Rapid development in the field of GIS technology affects and regulates the continuation of TC 211 work, which is evident from its program for the coming few years. The foreseen result will have provided a set of additional fifteen ISO standards.
