Summary: | A virtual collaborative environment was createdat East Carolina University, using videoconferencetechnology via regular internet to bring students from 18different countries, 2 at a time, to the same classroom inreal time to learn about each other’s culture. Students fromtwo countries are partnered one on one,, they meet for 4-5weeks, and submit a joint paper. Then the same process isrepeated for two other countries. Lectures and studentdiscussions are managed with pre-determined topics andquestions. Classes are conducted in English and readingassignments are placed on the website. Administratively allpartners are independent, students pay fees and get creditsat their home institution. Familiarity with technology,knowledge in cultural understanding and attitude changewere assessed, only attitude changes are reported in thispaper.
