Description
Summary:This article lists competencies and skills which are required for psychologists to work in hospitals. Seven hospital psychologists and three nurses were interviewed. Additionally, it was observed the work carried out by three of the psychologists. The obtained results were qualitatively analyzed through three synergic steps: description, inductive analysis, and critical analysis. The description summed up the psychological demand existing in hospitals and those aspects of the psychologist behavior responsible for promoting multidisciplinary practices. The inductive analysis defined competencies and skills that help develop the needed capacity for psychologists to insert themselves within a hospital context in a way that meets the requirements of the present health system. The critical analysis showed the gradual difference from general to specialized psychological competences and skills. Finally, it points out that the main quality in education by competence is the development of skills, which are able to implement new competencies.
