Description
Summary:Assuming that all knowledge is situated, this article highlights the importance of thinking from the lives of excluded groups, in this case women, to fill the silences and omissions of disciplines. Based on feminist standpoint epistemology, it examines various representations and images (arising from gender and cultural stereotypes and structures of domination) that men project onto women in contexts of violence, and which influence the way they treat them. It also discusses the constructions that women make of themselves, as well as their options in the face of violence. Without denying neither their complicity in maintaining the stereotypical male imaginary nor their responsibility in the exercise of violence, the author emphasizes the images and strengths that women build in a more autonomous manner.
