Summary:<p>This work aims at studying text and discourse in the infographic of Scientific Publication in the Media (SPM). It relates an analysis carried out in a corpus extracted from “Superinteressante”, “Mundo Estranho” and “Saúde! é Vital” magazines to the postulates of Visual Semiotic and to concepts and operations identified in descriptive, narrative and explanatory processes coming from Semiolinguistic and from Textual Linguistic. The methodology includes the contextualization and the clarification of what is considered to be Scientific Publication in the Media. Then, the infographic is characterized taking into consideration its origins and the definitions that are in use in communication studies. Next, the infographic is examined, identifying the textual and discursive processes (descriptive, narrative and explanatory) toward the discursive aim (make know understand-feel). To conclude, it is possible to establish to what extent the infographic helps with the construction of not only the verbal but also visual and scientific literacy, once the syncretism image word addresses essential aspects of literacy actions.</p><p>Key Words: Scientific Publication in the Media (SPM), infographic, semiotic syncretism.</p>
