Description
Summary:The language material used for this paper was collected during the summer of 1990 in the northern part of Ibarski Kolašin, namely in the area north of the Ibar River between the settlements of Gazivode and Ribarice, for the need of the SANU Board of Onomastics. The toponymy of this area has been presented in the paper. The naming of a great number of places was determined by the land configuration as well as a century-long presence in this area. Although some names such as Bara, Bašča and Brdo are recorded in a number of settlements the toponymy is characterized by a variety of motifs of naming as well as place-name forms. Such toponymy provides valuable insight into the specific language features of the area: accentuation, phonological system word-formation models, ways of naming, syntagmatic relations. The three-accent system with the quantity met in front of the accents with falling intonation, inconsistent ijekavian replacement of yat, the word formation that is in good accordance with the word formation in the standard language, as well as the marginal influence of the language in the environment are met in the researched area.
