Summary:Clinical trials often yield inconclusive or inconsistent results because of their small sample size leading to the proverbial "Doctor′s Dilemma." Against this backdrop, the rapidly evolving statistical tool of meta-analysis has been discussed. The steps of meta-analysis have been enumerated sparing statistical details as far as possible. The advantages as well as the pitfalls of meta-analysis have been reviewed together with some ways of overcoming them.
