Summary: | This article presents the theoretical debate surrounding the integration of labour standards in international trade. For those who support the theoretical approach defending the integration of these standards in the international trade agenda, the focus is on the benefits of such a policy for economic growth and human development in developing countries. Whereas according to the perspective of the second theoretical approach, one condemns the protectionist motivations of the developed countries, who intend to deprive the developing countries of one of their better comparative advantages, a reduced cost of labour. These two approaches also do not agree on which institution should address labour standards (WTO vs ILO) and the obligations that come with them. |
