Summary: | Background and aims: Today, leukemia that is a most common neoplasm in childhood has turned to a chronic disease from fatal one. Therefore, focus on the problems of long-term treatment in families, especially mothers who are primary caregivers, has increased. Social support and hope in mothers may play an important role in enabling mothers to manage and exposure to maternal stress experience and compatibility with existing disease. In this study, it was investigated the relationship between social support and hope to be mothers of children with leukemia.
Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 150 people were selected consecutively mothers who came to blood center of Ali Asghar Educational –Treatment Center in Tehran during three months. Data were analyzed using k2 test، independent t- test and one-way ANNOVA test.

Results:The age mean of mothers was 33/37 and 97/3% of them got married. Almost (50.7%) of participants had a high level of social support and (45/3%) of them, had a high level of hope. So, there is a positive significant relation between these two parameters (p≤ o.o5, r=443%).
Conclusion: According to the results of this study and relationship between social support and hope and importance of these variables for mothers as the most care givers groups of a Child with leukemia, it is necessary to organize for education and to increase social support and as well to be hopeful from these women which are finally effective on quality of care a child with leukemia. |
