Description
Summary:The strengthening and diversification of Chinese influence are one of the structural trends in Caribbean geopolitics today. To assess its significance, this paper examines the stakes of this spectacular breakthrough by the People’s Republic of China in an area under the centuries-old influence of the United States. It then identifies the levers of its influence with Caribbean governments and the reasons for its attractiveness to them. Finally, it looks at the foreseeable consequences of this Chinese presence for the countries of the Caribbean, the American power and the geopolitical balances of the whole area.
