Description
Summary:This article aims to demonstrate the metaphorical and metonymic construction of the domain of anarchy during the reading of the comics V de Vingança (MOORE; LLOYD, 2006). For this purpose, we are anchored in the concepts of metaphor (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, [1980]2003; 1999) and metonymy (BARCELONA, 2003; KÖVECSES, 2004) that are present in the theoretical framework of Cognitive Linguistics. Qualitative analysis was applied to passages of the comics from which it was possible to build metaphors and metonymies based in verbal and graphical texts simultaneously. As a result, the analysis highlights the metaphor ANARCHY IS THEATRAL SPECTACLE that is particularly anchored in the metonymy PART FOR WHOLE. The results reinforce both the idea of metonymic motivation of metaphorical constructions and the comprehension that investigating this phenomenon allows us to access worldviews, which can be revealed through the integrated reading of different modalities.
