The research seminar of the Javeriana University Faculty of Nursing has it starting point at the early 1980’s when the professors then in charge of the students education questioned themselves about the foundations of Nursing as a professional activity, its field of study, the approach methods and the several theoretical streams on which the professional labour and the disciplinary body relied on, these aspects becoming the leading axis in the continuous reflection that has characterized this area. As a pedagogic experience, it has become a tradition within the Faculty that has enriched teaching practice, brought feedback to the educational processes and also contributed to professional development from a research perspective. This article intends to answer the following questions pointing out the most relevant aspects of the process: What is the research seminar? How has it developed? What are its accomplishments and limitations? What is its current state? What are the arisen challenges?.
