Description
Summary:In the early 1960s, the Brazilian State positioned itself as an instance of arbitration and recourse in cases of labor conflicts in the countryside. Despite the coup d'état of 1964, this period left an indelible mark on the memories, as it finally established "rights" for rural workers. The unprecedented action of its organizations - Peasant Leagues and Rural Workers' Unions - promoted, in the cane zone, remarkable effects on their living and working conditions. The "Tempo de Arraes" was highlighted in the report of the sugarcane workers themselves and some witnesses.
