Summary: | The 1970s mark the history of Piaui in several forms, but this paper tells and
highlights the role of press in general, and printing press in particular on the construction of
the image of a progressive Piaui and also Teresina as a new tourist center of Brazil. Alberto
Tavares Silva, Piaui Governor (1971-1975) was the one who knew how to attract newspapers
and journalists to the sphere of power attempting to build a different image of Piaui, which
was an image of poverty jointly with an image of a forgotten place, and above all, ruled by
conservative and corrupted oligarchies. The Governor and his allies aimed at removing the
Piaui and its capital, Teresina, from the national collection of jokes. To construct this historic
narrative the main printing journals that circulate in the capital of Piaui were used, as well as
interviews that the researchers used in the Oral History methodology. |
