Summary: | <p align="LEFT"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-Ligh; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-Ligh; font-size: xx-small;">Background, patients and methods. </span></span><em><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-LighItal; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-LighItal; font-size: xx-small;">Analysis of</span></span></em></p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">medical certificates of cause of death for 5431 deceased people</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">in region of Public Health Unit (PHU) Nova Gorica should</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">give us a useful data for prevalence study of diabetes in</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">region. Certificates have had some minor failings in data perfection</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">but they are still satisfactory for numerical analysis</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">and enable a rough evaluation of diabetes prevalence among</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">people more than 65 years old.</p><em></em><p align="LEFT"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-Ligh; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-Ligh; font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span></span></p><p align="LEFT"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-Ligh; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-Ligh; font-size: xx-small;">Results and conclusions. </span></span><em><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-LighItal; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: GaramondItcTEE-LighItal; font-size: xx-small;">Analysis has shown that prevalence</span></span></em></p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">of diabetes in region at the end of life is between 6 and 15</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">percents. Among females is prevalence doubled as among males.</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">The same ratio is seen when diabetes is basic cause of</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">death. In subregion of Ajdovščina is that ratio even 3:1. The</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">prevalence of diabetes in subregion Tolmin is hardly the half</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">of that in subregions Ajdovščina and Nova Gorica. The possible</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">cause for this observation are deaths of pronounced old</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">population, which have had little connections with health services</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">in subregion and had been badly evidenced, men much</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">more worse than women.</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT"> </p><p align="LEFT">About one third of people with diabetes have died from diabetes</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">and his late complications. A half of people with diabetes</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">have died from cardiovascular diseases, and one tenth from</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">cancer and pulmonary diseases. All other causes have been</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">rare. The specific mortality rate for diabetics in region exceeds</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">Slovenian mean and even in literature cited evaluation for</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">the USA.</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT"> </p><p align="LEFT">The youngest deceased diabetic was 41, and median age of</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">deads was 75 years. The median age of deceased diabetics in</p><em><em></em></em><p align="LEFT">region exceedes the Slovenian median age of all deaths, for 3</p><em><em></em></em><p>to 5 years.</p><em></em> |
