Summary: | Countries like Colombia and Mozambique are characterized by their cultural diversity and richness. In this plenary conference some reflections about mathematics education in contexts of cultural diversity will be presented. How may educators and teachers be prepared to work in a multicultural classroom? How can one motivate pupils of different social-cultural backgrounds? How can one contribute towards the realization of the mathematical potential of all students? To stimulate the reflection of the participants about this type of questions some experiences both in research and in teaching of the author will be presented. The mini-course “Explore some mathematical ideas of African origin in mathematics education”, realized in three sessions, accompanies the plenary lecture. |
