Summary: | The study is concerned with developing a comprehensive list of teacher competencies to fit the needs of the propsective teachers at the colleges of education in Saudi Arabia. In order to achieve this goal these researchers examined the related literature, and traced the history of the Competency Based Teacher Education , CBTE, programs which goes back to 1967.
The researchers used the system approach for the purpose of analysing the role of the student teacher in respect to the interaction-relationship among the student teacher, the learning environment, the cur- riculum and the student. Each of the above elements forms a subsystem to the general teaching~learning system. The system approach was also used to analyze the training process where the student teacher rep- resents the core of the process in relation to the other subsystems that include characteristics of the society, the individual and his needs, the training program, the educational competencies and the follow-up sys- tem. This analysis shows that the pl’oschlive teacher needs to acquire several competencies in order to be a successful teacher.
The researchers defined educational competency as follows: teaching competency is the ability to implement teaching activities which are based on facts, concepts, generalizations and principles that appears through the educational behavior which aims at perfection.
