Presentó cuadro de dolor abdominal y diarrea, que rápidamente comprometió su estado general. Los estudios de laboratorio fueron negativos. Por persistencia del cuadro y agravamiento del estado general se practicó endoscopia digestiva durante la cual se tomó biopsia del duodeno distal que mostró larvas de Strongyloides stercoralis. El paciente falleció antes de iniciar el tratamiento. Se llama la atención hacia la necesidad de pensar en esta parasitosis en los pacientes con SIDA y hacer las pruebas conducentes a su diagnóstico.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial">We report on the case of a 27 year old male whit AIDS/HIV infection. He belonged In Group II according to CDC's classification system and was being treated with AZT. He suffered protracted diarrhea which led to dehydration and rapid worsening of his general condition. Routine laboratory tests were negative. Endoscopic study of the upper gastrointestinal tract revealed esophageal candidosis, duodenogastric reflux and alkaline gastritis. Lower duodenal biopsy showed Strongyloides stercora11s larvae inside the duodenal crypts. The patient died before any treatment could be initiated. Postmortem examination was not performed.
