Summary: | The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations came into force in 1989. Under the regulations the employer may need to monitor the workplace to assess potential exposure of personnel to toxic gases and to show compliance with Occupational Exposure Limits. Before embarking on a monitoring programme an initial appraisal of the situation should be made, followed by a basic and possibly a detailed survey depending on the extent of the problem. This paper will discuss sampling strategies and equipment available for monitoring the workplace including short-term and personal monitors, and area monitors. |
