Summary:This article deals with a lesser known, but highly important diplomatic and military assistance extended by Yugoslavia to Burma during the early 1950s when that country was facing dissolution caused by foreign support to different rebel groups on its territory, above all to the renegade troops of Chinese Nationalists. This historical episode eventually proved to be the opening chapter of Yugoslavia’s active engagement with Asia. This article is largely based on newly declassiϐied documents from the Serbian, Myanmar, Chinese, Indian, U.S. and British archives.
