Summary:<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;"><span class="A2"><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: ";Arial";,";sans-serif";; font-size: 10pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;" lang="EN-US"><span style="color: #221e1f;">This article examines the fundamentals of the New Cultural History, mainly those that have had a greater impact on written cultural history, the book and reading. The article specifically studies the development of this historiographic field since the 1960s, so as to evaluate its deficiencies, achievements and pending challenges. At the same time, the article considers the evolution of Spanish historiography, currently one of the most prolific and solvent in Europe. Spanish investigation of the book and reading has reached a high level of quality, as is evidenced by the number of works it includes.</span></span></span><span style="font-family: ";Arial";,";sans-serif";; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;" lang="EN-US"></span></p>
