Summary:Cereals are a basic source of food for the population and animals, being cultivated on more than half of the arable land of the planet. These species provide basic products for human food and animal feed, as well as raw materials for a lot of industries, such as: milling and bakery industry, oil industry, sugar industry, starch industry, alcohol industry, pharmaceutical industry, textile fibre industry etc. In Romania, corn is the second most cultivated cereal, occupying in 2018 an agricultural area of 2,415 thousand ha, with an important balance in the food security of the continuously growing human population. In Romania, corn culture comes second in terms of the cultivated area, being spread all over the country, as we are the country with the largest area cultivated with corn in Europe. The article carried out an assessment of the areas cultivated with consumption corn and of the productions obtained, the productions obtained in the last 10 years and the distribution thereof by regions, as well as of the factors that generated this zoning. The data were analysed, interpreted and results that can be useful to farmers and the business environment were obtained.
