La chapelle des Pénitents blancs de Villeneuve-sur-Lot (Lot-et-Garonne) : un projet de réaménagement et de réintégration des objets

The White Penitents chapel at Villeneuve-sur-Lot was built in 1667, its decoration dating from the eighteenth century. Most of the processional objects that still survive today were made during the nineteenth century. The chapel was deconsecrated after the dissolution in 1937 of the White Penitents brotherhood, leading to the dispersion of the chapel’s works of art. The progressive protection of the chapel and its objects, as well as the study carried out by the General inventory service in 1999, underlined the importance of this heritage ensemble. The regional arts directorate of the new Aquitaine Poitou-Charentes Limousin region (Nouvelle Aquitaine) is currently supporting a project to re-interpret and refurnish the chapel.
