The treatment is based on the use ofcorticoids and cytotoxic drugs, however other measures for the control of edema, as theuse of diuretics, have been used without being in the guidelines as obligatory guides ofmanagement. In this article, it is done a review of the pharmacological characteristicsand the indications of the diuretics in the management of the nephrotic syndrome.Rev.cienc.biomed. 2012;3(2):312-316RESUMEN:El síndrome nefrótico es una condición clínica caracterizada por pérdida urinaria masivade proteínas, especialmente albúmina, lo cual lleva al desarrollo de hipoalbuminemiay edema secundario. Otras alteraciones como la dislipidemia acompañan este cuadroen forma compensatoria a la pérdida de la presión oncótica, mas no hacen parte de ladefinición. El tratamiento se basa en el uso de corticoides y citotóxicos, sin embargootras medidas para el control del edema como el uso de diuréticos, han sido usadas,sin encontrarse en las guías como pautas obligatorias de manejo. En este artículo serealiza revisión de las características farmacológicas y las indicaciones de los diuréticosen el manejo del síndrome nefrótico.
